Three Reasons Your Google Business Listing Helps Your Local Business

Of all of the tools local businesses use to get new customers, almost none are as important as your "Google My Business" listing. Google My Business is the free map location you can create on Google Maps, so that you come up in Google Maps and other searches.

Why is it so important to have a well populated Google Places profile?

  1. Google Maps is one of the most widely used smartphone apps in the world. Every month, over half of all smartphone users use Google Maps to get directions or find a location. If your business is listed on that map, you’re more likely to be discovered by possible customers.

  2. Just last month (April 2018), Google announced a new form of local advertisements that will be delivered during Google Maps searches, whether on smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. These advertisements can be a powerful part of your marketing mix.

  3. Your Google My Business profile may also show up in regular Google search engine results. When somebody completes a search using search terms that bring up local businesses (for example, “nearest hardware store?”), Google will show a “3-pack” of the top three local business listings at the top of the organic search results. If you’re one of the top three map results for certain search terms, you can expect some great website traffic and phone calls from these listings.

  1. Keep in mind, it’s been reported that 84% of shoppers use local searches to find products. If somebody is looking for products or services you offer, you’ll want your Google My Business profile to let them know you can help and make sure your contact information is accurate and up to date.
  2. Did you know that 75% of people searching for a nearby business visit that business within one day? 28% of those visitors make a purchase! So, Google My Business can really help your bottom line.
  3. Google allows businesses to promote their “pins” on the map, which will highlight your business location on a map search.
